A building with character.
An absolute one-off from an architectural point of view: the new city library in Stuttgart. The cube-shaped building impresses with its extraordinary concept and also its unique architecture. During the day it is a prominent glass cube in the new European Quarter, and at night the façade is impressively illuminated with soft elegance. The central element in the interior is the so-called “heart” of the library. The transparent, almost seamless surface design on the walls and the floor reflects the claim of outstanding architectural quality. The characteristic effect of the room has been achieved using a particularly high-quality material concept.
The so-called “heart” of the library can be found in the centre of the building: the 14 m high, completely empty space over four storeys constitutes the actual core of this library. It was conceptually inspired by the Pantheon in ancient Rome. The uncompromising geometric external design language is consistently continued in the interior. The result is a well-arranged, absolutely geometric, pure white space in the form of a perfect cube. It is illuminated by a central skylight, which gives it its meditative character. The architects relied on a particularly high-quality material concept to achieve the characteristic effect of the room: PANDOMO Wall in combination with PANDOMO Terrazzo on the floor.
